Something, as women, we rarely talk about in a positive light, is our menstrual cycle. We acknowledge our discomfort, the inconvenience, our heightened irritability, but we have not been taught the emotional and spiritual benefits of our cycle. As a women’s health doctor, I find it essential to connect women to their cycles. In past times, menstruation was honored as a sacred and mysterious process, as this was the link to the survival of humankind. The menstrual cycle was a way of keeping time. The link between a woman’s cycle and the moon heightened the respect of the feminine. Women gathered in a moon-lodge during their period as a way of preserving their energy for heightened intuition~ accessing wisdom for the health of women and community.
In working with women and witnessing the miraculous healing occurring on physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels, I realized that I wanted to reach out to girls, teaching them a power that their mothers are still working to reclaim. I studied with Georgette Star, founder of Maiden Spirit, who has created an inspired learning program to support girls in connecting with spirituality and self-esteem. We create a rite-of-passage ceremony at menarche for these girls, celebrating their initiation into womanhood. This is a truly inspiring program for girls 9-13 years old.
I am now interested in helping high school girls continue the learning process. I am developing a workshop for TEEN goddesses, exploring ideas of peer pressure, body image and the power of the womb. This class will delve deeper into feminine energetic anatomy, using the body as a way to understand emotions, intuition, hormones, boundaries, and sexuality.
This workshop will be held in May. If you are interested or would like more information, please contact me. In the next newsletter, I will continue to explore ways that you can connect to that deep place of knowing, your womb!
